Connect the dots
With the State of Social Media we investigate the early emergence of social media initiatives and where to go from here. During our last meeting with the editorial team of the Summit, we made the following observation. Whereas the movement of digital pioneers is alive and kicking, it is…not very well connected. To change these weak ties into a strong independent network we suggest to use the State of Social Media Summit as a stage to get this done!
Organising movement
Initially we picked four themes, which cluster interesting Digital Pioneers projects: open governance, migration and integration, journalism and funding. While listening to the participants of the first two round tables (Open Governance and Migration & Integration), we heard a lot of overlapping challenges.
For example, in both fields financial durability is a prioritized challenge. And for most organizations connecting, and staying connected to an audience is also an issue. While emphasizing on our common goals, organizing as social entrepreneurs seems to become even more important. Sharing ideas and lessons learned can bring the movement another step further.
Common issues
We would like to distil the challenges that Digital Pioneers have come across or are still facing. We made a start, but we would like to ask you to add and comment on these issues.
- Financial durability of social innovations
- New business models for open culture
- Cooperation with governmental organizations
- Media wise public
- Durable connection with audience
Please let us know about which issues you want to share experiences on the State of Social Media Summit. On which topics do you want to learn from others and which do you want to pass to future pioneers.
